Thembinkosi Lorch has bid farewell to Orlando Pirates in an emotional message after leaving the club to join rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old midfielder's departure marks the end of an era in Soweto, with Lorch set to bolster the ranks of the DStv Premiership leaders.

He completed a deadline-day switch to Sundowns during the January transfer window ahead of the second round of league fixtures.

Lorch's move comes amidst a flurry of transfer activity for both clubs, with Sundowns already strengthening their squad with the acquisition of Tashreeq Matthews.

Earlier in the week, the Buccaneers secured the services of Thalente Mbatha on loan from SuperSport United and Thabiso Lebitso from Chippa United.

Lorch posted on social media: "It is with a mix of emotions that I announce my departure from Orlando Pirates FC.

"My time has been filled with unforgettable memories, personal growth, and the chance to play alongside very talented football players.

"I extend my deepest appreciation to the chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, for providing me with the opportunity to play for a club that has so much history and for all the support during the difficult times in my life.

"Thank you to coach Jose Riveiro for his belief in me, the former and current coaches and the staff, the entire management team, and my teammates for all the memories we have built together.

"Most importantly, thank you to the passionate Buccaneers who have been my source of inspiration. Your loyalty and unwavering support have fueled my journey, and it has been an honour to wear the iconic Buccaneer jersey.

"I'm looking forward to this next chapter of my career with Mamelodi Sundowns, and I will do my best to support my teammates and contribute towards the club's success.
